The Junior League of Savannah (JLS) initiated its Endowment Fund in 2001 in commemoration of our 75th anniversary. The Fund was established as a separate account of the JLS for the purpose of ensuring the continuing vitality of the JLS in its mission and financial contributions to the community. The Endowment is an integral part of our long-term development strategy, which includes growing the principal with the goal of providing a perpetual source of income.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Endowment Fund receives capital contributions and property to be invested and reinvested so that the principal remains intact while income is produced from capital appreciation, dividends and interest. All income in the Endowment Fund shall be accumulated until such time as the Board of Directors deems distributions are appropriate.
WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL PHILOSOPHY?
The investment strategy of the JLS is to emphasize total return; that is, the aggregate return from capital appreciation and dividend and interest income. The primary objective in the investment management of the Endowment Fund is to achieve a balanced return of current income and a modest growth of the principal, with an emphasis on long-term growth of the principal while avoiding excessive risk. The goal of this philosophy is to provide a firm financial basis for future planning.
WHAT ARE TYPICAL CONTRIBUTIONS?
Contributions to the JLS Endowment Fund can be in the form of one-time gifts, multi-year pledges, estate-planning gifts, event proceeds, memorial tributes, grants and bequests. Contributions may be cash, real estate, insurance policies, securities, or other tangible or intangible assets from any person, organization, or corporation at any time.
WHY DOES THE JLS NEED AN ENDOWMENT FUND?
The JLS has raised most of the funds for our community programs from the revenues generated by Thrift Sale and Cookbook proceeds. While these fundraisers continue to be the primary sources of our income, the generated revenue may vary from year to year, and the needs in our community continue to grow. The Endowment Fund will sustain the future of the JLS and its ability to meet these needs.
WHY SHOULD I CONTRIBUTE?
The Endowment Fund offers an opportunity to invest in the future of the JLS and ensures our impact in the community for years to come.

The Endowment Fund accepts cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard contributions. These contributions can be mailed directly to JLS Headquarters at:
