This project was sparked by the increasing prevalence of childhood obesity. This is a one-day event held to encourage healthy lifestyles for children in our community. The committee works with local agencies to encourage healthy eating and exercise. Last year we welcomed approximately 750 attendees who learned how to live a more active, healthy life.
Junior League of Savannah’s Fit Kids Fest Mission Statement: Promote fit minds and bodies in K-12 children through interactive education and healthy lifestyle resources, in partnership with local organizations for a free annual community event.
Fit Kids Fest is a free community event focused on promoting overall wellness for K-12 students. Children and their parents can participate in a fun interactive day that not only introduces them to academic resources in the community but also educates them on making healthy choices and living an active lifestyle. Tips on making healthy meals and snacks, exercise and other fun ways to get moving, as well as access to resources for strengthening the mind are just a few of the activities available at Fit Kids Fest. For this year’s event, the Junior League of Savannah is collaborating with Communities In Schools of Savannah to help focus our efforts.
The purpose of Communities In Schools of Savannah shares an underlying goal with the Junior League of Savannah, in that we all aim to improve the community through effective action. Communities in Schools of Savannah’s mission, to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life, sets the stage for The Junior League of Savannah to partner with another organization who seek to positively impact Savannah’s youth and their families.
