In 2011-12, League members residing in this area completed projects with St. Mark's Towers Retirement Community, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Glynn County, STAR Foundation, Inc., Morningstar Children & Family Services.
2011-2012 Projects
St. Mark's Towers Retirement Community - Annual Christmas Dinner: Golden Isles members served as host of the third annual Christmas dinner for the residents of the St. Mark’s Towers. Members decorated, cooked and presented a lovely meal, with local entertainment in which everyone enjoyed. This event is often the highlight of the year in which residents look forward to an evening of fun, laughter, dancing and singing. All of the ladies love to get dressed up to celebrate the holiday each year.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Glynn County: Golden Isles members assisted CASA in preparing educational materials for events in the community with the purchase of a printer in which staff may use on a daily basis to conduct business in a more professional manner. This project will help educate the community on the need for advocates to be a voice for and represent the interests of the children in Glynn County and surrounding communities.
STAR Foundation, Inc.: Golden Isles members assisted the Star Foundation, Inc. in providing educational training experiences for the workforce and with the purchase and shopping of appropriate business attire for 24 women who may otherwise not be able to afford it. League members helped participants to increase their self-esteem and interview skills for the competitive job market.
Morningstar Children and Family Services, Inc.: Golden Isles members assisted the Morningstar Children and Family Services, Inc. in the providing a therapeutic environment for 20 youth in residence with severe emotional and behavioral issues with the purchase of painting supplies and the actual painting and beautification of a cottage.
